Volkswagen Golf
Volkswagen Golf

Fans of the Golf, and there are many of these, love the chunky good looks, value for money, reliability and driving experience of the compact hatchback.  The car has been around for five decades and has subtly evolved over that time.  Even looking back at a Mark One model we will be instantly reminded that this is Golf.

The car is available as both a two door and four door hatchback, and comes in various trim levels, from the standard Launch edition to the top of the range SEL. One of the most famous Golfs was, of course, the hot hatch of all time, the Golf GTi.  Good examples are still around, despite many having been driven hard.

German engineering is allied to good cabin comfort. VW is still reeling from claims that it cheated on emissions tests, and this makes it a good time to look for a new car, as good discounts are often available.

Positive Attributes of the Volkswagen Golf

  • Deserved reputation
  • Good internal space for its size
  • Decent enough fuel economy
  • Fun driving experience
  • Excellent value for money.

Things against the Volkswagen Golf

There are few issues with modern Golfs.  Certainly, rear space is roomy, but the seats are a little low, meaning that six footers might find their legs getting a little uncomfortable.  In some older vehicles, the entry level engine was a touch underpowered.
